PROJECT SUMMARY
The images of ONLY HUMAN were donated by 49 extremely generous and talented photographers from around the world. Each photograph is the artists’ visual answer to the question, “what does it mean to be human?” Over the course of one year more than 1100 photographic entries were received in answer to this very question. Images arrived from more than 30 nations, and voices were heard from every continent. What started as one woman’s MFA thesis project has become a global effort to tell the story of a united humanity.
Together, the 94 photographs of ONLY HUMAN form a comprehensive image of a heritage shared by all humans, and a heritage shared by only humans. It is a look at both the “yins” and the “yangs” of our existence, touching on some of the more fundamental elements that unite humanity: life, death, play, work, love, war, community, and solitude.
The primary objective of the exhibit is to create awareness between and among cultures about our similarities, so that we might learn to tolerate our differences. Because we live in a world that is so divided by conflict, it is important to remind people that there is no enemy, there is no stranger. All humanity is one.
